OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATION AND THE ROLE
The Youth Rising Drop-In Center in Emmett, Idaho is a safe, inclusive space for youth ages 11–24 to build community, access resources, and develop leadership skills. The center offers a wide range of activities—from art, games, and music to academic support, mental health referrals, and career exploration—all led by trained peer mentors and staff. Youth play an active role in shaping the program, ensuring it reflects their needs and voices. This internship offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience in nonprofit program coordination through planning, outreach, evaluation, and event execution, while also learning the inner workings of nonprofit management.
OPPORTUNITY / PROJECT DUTIES
- Supporting program planning, logistics, and implementation of youth/ young adult centered activities.
- Supporting in community outreach and maintaining contact lists for events and activities.
- Helping to organize and/ or implement events, workshops, or training for youth/ young adult participants.
- Gathering data and feedback for program evaluation from youth.
- Drafting program materials, newsletters, or outreach communications for events and activities.
- Coordinating with staff and youth/ young adult participants to ensure smooth program delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Interest in nonprofit youth programs with an emphasis in mental well- being, community engagement, or program coordination.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a team.
- Ability to work closely with youth and young adults (11-24) in a professional capacity.
- Interest in engaging in youth activities and peer support activities.
- Comfort with Microsoft Office / Google Suite (experience with Canva or project management tools is a plus).
- Ability to commute once weekly to Drop-in in Emmett and be present between 3:00-6:30pm.
SKILLS THAT INTERN WILL DEVELOP
- Demonstrate project management skills through planning and coordination of nonprofit programs.
- Strengthen professional communication and teamwork abilities.
- Gain experience in community engagement and program coordination.
- Develop a portfolio of tangible work (event plans, outreach materials, program reports).
- Understand the role of nonprofit organizations in community impact.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Background Check through Idaho Department of Health and Welfare prior to official start date.
- Commit to maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
- Demonstrate responsibility, compassion, accountability, and respect when working with youth from diverse backgrounds and life circumstances.
- Follow all Youth Rising policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Complete required orientation and training prior to youth engagement.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of shared spaces.
- Notify designated staff of schedule changes in advance.
- Immediately report any safety concerns to staff.
- Mandated Reporting: All adult interns (18+) working with youth are considered mandated reporters. Any suspected abuse, neglect, or safety concerns must be reported immediately to Youth Rising staff, who will follow appropriate reporting protocols.
