About JEMfriends
JEMfriends, Boise, Idaho, is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to bringing opportunities of growth and stability for at-risk youth, ages 18-24 years. JEMfriends supports underserved youth who are experiencing homelessness or have aged out of the foster care system. JEMfriends works through our Independent Living Program, housing, Life Skills Classes, and mentorship to create positive outcomes for at-risk youth.
Summary of Position
The Grant Intern supports JEMfriends development team by assisting with grant research, writing, reporting, and donor‑facing communications. This role is ideal for a student interested in nonprofit work, fundraising, communications, or public service. The intern will gain hands‑on experience in the full grant cycle while contributing to meaningful impact in the lives of local youth
OPPORTUNITY / PROJECT DUTIES (roughly 5-10 duties)
- Grant Research
- Identify prospective grant opportunities that align with JEMfriends’ mission and programs
- Track deadlines, eligibility requirements, and application details
- Grant Writing & Preparation
- Draft and edit sections of grant applications
- Assist with gathering program data, youth stories, and organizational information
- Support the creation of attachments, budgets, and supplemental materials
- Grant Reporting
- Help compile narrative and data‑based reports for funders
- Assist with collecting youth quotes, photos, and program updates
- Grantor Relationship Building
- Draft newsletters, recognition pieces, and updates for current and prospective funders
- Support stewardship efforts by helping prepare thank‑you letters and impact communications
- Administrative Support
- Maintain grant files, calendars, and tracking systems
- Assist with other development tasks as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Interest in nonprofit work, social impact, or fundraising
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and eager to learn
- Proficient in Google Workspace or Microsoft Offic
SKILLS THAT INTERN WILL DEVELOP
- Understanding the full grant lifecycle (research → writing → reporting → stewardship)
- Professional writing for external audiences
- Project management and organizational systems
- Nonprofit communications and donor relations
