Communications Coordinator -- Intern

TITLE:         Communications Coordinator -- Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:
The communications coordinator will play a pivotal role in promoting the WCA on social media, earned media and digital platforms. Draft news releases, write blogs, create engaging content, assist in digital advertising, and help plan community events. Works to engage community members to understand sexual and domestic violence and the resources that are available to those impacted. Implements and designs awareness raising activities and educational opportunities. Builds and maintains partnerships with key organizations and groups within the community and works towards achieving the WCA’s vision of a community where every individual thrives in safe, healthy relationships.

  Essential Job Functions:   
  • Creation and maintenance of content calendar for social media
  • Planning, content creation and execution for social media campaigns related to awareness months, days, organizational mission and services provided
  • Create content, edit and update website
  • Assist with writing and editing news releases, newsletter and blog content.
  •  Assist with copy and multimedia content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other digital platforms
  • Collaborate with various internal departments for smooth execution on outreach and communication driven programs and events
  • Taking photos/videos at events and storing for archival purposes in shared folders.
  • Seeking out and assisting with various media opportunities with internal and external clients
  • Basic graphic design and layout for flyers, brochures, rack cards, presentations, digital content and other organization needs as identified.
  • Other duties may be assigned.  

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At minimum a college junior or senior majoring/specializing in marketing, digital marketing, communications or public relations.
  • Knowledge of root causes of relationship abuse and sexual assault
  • Ability to work independently and as member of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Flexibility, ability to prioritize, and experience in working on multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills    
  • Commitment to social change: Willing and able to engage in community-based activities and efforts that focus on changing social norms, attitudes and behaviors.
  • Relationship building skills: Experience in building relationships with various individuals and community organizations within a community in addressing effective primary prevention strategies on gender violence.
  • Familiarity with Boise city and Ada County, preferred not required.
  • Photography and video production skills are an asset.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Approximately 60 % of time spent sitting at workstation,
  2. Approximately 30% of time spent out of the office at meetings, doing presentations and standing/moving about at WCA events
  3. Approximately 10% of time spent standing, walking, negotiating stairs, bending, kneeling, carrying, and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs.
  4. Frequent repetitive use of hands in keyboarding.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:
Requires the ability to use standard office equipment and to move within a standard office environment. Requires the ability to pass a fingerprint clearance according to ADHS licensure
 
WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT:
90% percent of time is spent indoors in temperature-controlled environment. Ten percent spent traveling to out-of-office activities.
 
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Computer software such as e-mail, creating documents/spreadsheets; fax and copy machines, multi-line phone system, and other general office equipment.
