Development Intern

For 50 years, the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) has played a pivotal role in shaping the fields of environmental law, policy, and management both domestically and internationally.
ELI seeks a part-time intern to support the Development Team remotely, starting as soon as possible and continuing through October. The Development Intern will work directly with the Vice President for Development and Membership, Senior Manager for Foundations and Donor Relationships, and the Development Associate to help secure resources needed to meet future environmental challenges, while gaining valuable work experience in non-profit management through professional mentorship.
ELI integrates all interns into the day-to-day operations of the Institute. Interns are encouraged to attend ELI policy events, seminars, and meetings on a variety of topics, including the renowned ELI Summer School introductory seminars designed to teach interns and law clerks about the legal foundations of environmental protection.
Responsibilities
The Development Intern will assist with grant seeking, donor outreach, prospect research, event planning, communications, and associated administrative tasks. Assignments will vary and may include researching foundations, drafting communications materials to donors, phone and email outreach, assisting with the design of social media campaigns, and supporting plans and preparations for ELI’s Annual Environmental Achievement Award Fundraiser on October 15th.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong organizational, writing, research, time management, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as a strong attention to detail. Access to a computer and internet connection are required. Coursework, prior experience, or a strong interest in fundraising, public relations, marketing, communications, and/or events management are an asset, as well as a desire to learn about the nonprofit sector and the environmental field. Candidates must have completed their first year of college.
One part-time internship position is available. We are seeking a candidate who can commit between 10-20 hours per week throughout the summer, and 10 hours per week for September through October. We are happy to work with you to accommodate your schedule.
