AmeriCorps VISTA Youth Impact Coordinator

Overview: The Michigan Community Service Commission’s Youth Resources VISTA Program is a cohort of 15 VISTAs (Volunteers in Service To America) who serve throughout the state of Michigan in a national service role and focus on eliminating poverty within the areas of education and economic opportunity. The Youth Resource VISTA Program is seeking to fill up to 15 positions to serve on a full-time basis for one year, from August 28, 2020 to August 27, 2021. We are seeking candidates who want to make a difference in their communities by helping youth access resources and have a voice in making a difference.
Summary of Responsibilities:
VISTA members will help provide youth access to resources they need to be successful in school and work during the COVID-19 recovery. This will include:
·      Removing barriers and increasing access to information for youth as they choose to pursue college, skilled trades training or employment opportunities.
·      Assisting with developing solutions to decrease the opportunity gaps faced by youth, in particular, ensure resources are accessible for underserved youth and youth of color.
·      Empower youth voice by supporting youth to identify needs, challenges, and avenues to solve the issues that impact youth and their communities.
·      Assist with enhancing or developing programs to recruit, engage, and manage youth as volunteers to make a difference in their communities. This will include virtual volunteer opportunities.
·      Develop corporate partnerships that engage employees in volunteering to support youth in community.
·      Assist with resource development, grant writing, fundraising, donor development, and capacity building for sustainability.
·      Support youth with being engaged in social justice discussions and helping to support anti-racism policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
·      Experience in mentoring and/or youth development
·      Strong project management and organizational skills
·      Experience working with diverse people, organizations and communities
·      Excellent organization and communication skills
·      Strong writing and editing skills
·      Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing circumstances
·      Positive attitude
·      Detail oriented and self-motivated
·      Completion of some college preferred
Compensation: This position is a one-year commitment to serve with AmeriCorps VISTA. You will receive a modest living allowance to cover basic living necessities during the year of service, an education award (received upon successful completion of one-year service term, to put towards education expenses like student loans or for future education), health and childcare coverage, and many additional benefits.
Information on AmeriCorps VISTA Program: This VISTA position is a national service position through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. AmeriCorps VISTA members build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies to help them more effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage volunteer service at the local level, and empower individuals and communities.
