Youth Activation & Communications Intern (YOUTH01476)

Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools is a youth-focused strategy to educate, motivate and activate young people with and without intellectual disabilities as advocates for school climates that foster acceptance, inclusion and respect. Offered through Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools (UCS), the Youth Activation & Communications Intern will work closely with SONA and SOIHQ on ongoing activation and engagement, specifically engaging U.S. Youth Ambassadors.

What We Are Looking For:
For this role, we are looking for a creative and motivated team member who is eager to work and to learn in a dynamic workplace. The ideal candidate will enjoy working both in groups or independently, thrive on taking projects from concept to execution and have the maturity and flexibility to work successfully with a variety of individuals, especially youth. Strong creative, communication, writing and presentation skills are critical.

Date and Length of Internship:  12 months/about 30 hours per week

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support tracking of SONA youth activation, engagement and youth-led projects, for example; tracking social media and user-generated content (UGC)
  • Work closely with the Resources & Communications Team, for example; generate stories from project updates or features for newsletters
  • Help create and organize resources for national and state youth leaders (including U.S. Youth Ambassadors)
  • Support U.S. Youth Ambassadors engagement various communication methods such as email and text
  • Maintain strong internal communication and join team meetings

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel applications
  • Must be detail-orientated with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and professional manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with individuals from a range of cultures and professional backgrounds, especially youth
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Interest in disability, inclusion, and education Knowledge of Inclusive Youth Leadership, Unified Champion Schools, and the Unified Movement
