Spring/Summer Intern - Candidate Engagement

Recruiter/Engagement Intern 
Oregon Department of Education
Duration – 15-20/hours per week (flexible) through June 30, 2021 
$19.32 - $24.35 Hourly
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, this position is fully remote.

We are seeking a Recruiter/Candidate Engagement Intern to join our Human Resources Unit at the Oregon Department of Education. If you have a strong interest in Human Resources, specifically Recruitment, this is the opportunity for you!

The Oregon Department of Education supports Oregon’s children from age 0-24. We currently employ over 650 employees who work to ensure that all children and families have access to services, supports and opportunities. 

A day in the life:

  • Assist our recruitment team in identifying and communicating our brand identity. Strategically connect with job seekers utilizing platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Glassdoor. 
  • Compile a portfolio of contacts to expand our targeted audience for outreach on job postings and organize the portfolio by type of vacancy.
  • Support recruiters with candidate phone screens and resume reviews.
  • Interview new hires and share stories with our internal/external platforms.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for ODE. Actively promote ODE as an employer of choice. Participate in events and career fairs. 

What you will learn:

  • The recruitment process: job fairs and networking, posting positions, screening applicants, and supporting hiring managers. 
  • Benefits: the various types of insurance, retirement, health programs, and other benefits and the policies and procedures related to each and how these can be used to recruit candidates.
  • Networking/Mentorship: work alongside and learn from our seasoned HR professionals. Network with HR professionals in other state agencies. 
  • Virtual Portfolio: develop and refine your virtual portfolio. 

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Must be enrolled at least half-time in college with desired degree programs: Business, Human Resources, Marketing, and/or Communications
  • A demonstrated interested in the HR career field 
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Social media savvy 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, using skills such as collaboration, active listening, giving/receiving feedback. Ability to also work independently when needed.
