PhD Intern - Network Science and Machine Learning
This position is for a student internship in Applied Network Science. Operating on the data-information-knowledge continuum, staff at PNNL employ diverse methods to confront significant problems of national interest – from distilling distributed data into knowledge that supports decision processes to enabling resilient technologies that enhance computing at extreme scales. This internship will involve designing new methods, implementing algorithms, and analyzing data that can be represented as a network. Examples of such data include citation networks, cyber systems, social networks, and many more.
The intern will work with computing researchers and practitioners to apply advanced theories, methods, algorithms, models, evaluation tools and testbeds, and computational-based solutions to address complex scientific challenges affecting energy, biological sciences, the environment, and national security. Initial studies will be around collaboration networks and influence identification. Familiarity with time-dynamic systems is also important.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in python, C/C++/C# or java programming is preferred, but not required.
Familiarity with techniques from graph theory (network science) and machine learning.
Preferred Education
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or related field and must have a proven research track record including publications. Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher preferred.
