Nature of Work
The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus School of Medicine invites applications for a neurosurgery student research position to work in the Hankinson Laboratory performing basic tissue culture methods . The successful applicant will be comfortable in a clinical surgical setting to obtain tissues, biofluids, and other specimens from the operating room as well as perform experiments using flow cytometry and tissue culture. The applicant will also process tissue and help manage the tissue bank.
Knowledge of IRB and EHS protocols, compliances, policies, and regulations will become necessary.
 
Minimum Qualifications
-The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s in a scientific discipline, preferably with an emphasis in areas of biology and/or chemistry.
-Experience performing qPCR, nanodropping, and preparing agar plates
- Experience in research laboratories and cell/tissue culture


Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and expertise in the Neurosciences
- Experience in scientific writing and presentations
- Experience in handling human biofluids

Competencies
Applicants must be self-motivated, detail-oriented with a strong work ethic. The
ability to communicate and collaborate with a highly interdisciplinary group of clinicians and basic neuroscientists is necessary.
