Hatchery NPDES Permit Biologist

This position is funded for one year with the possibility of an additional year.

The incumbent provides scientific expertise, technical support and coordination for the Western Washington Treaty Tribes to develop, implement, and revise fish and shellfish hatchery environmental monitoring plans in conjunction with discharge permit requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Washington Department of Ecology. Duties include conducting technical analyses to assess and guide hatchery monitoring and sampling programs; reviewing and keeping tribal technical and policy staffs informed of sampling requirements for Concentrated Aquatic Animal Production (CAAP) facilities; coordinating tribal consultations with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Washington Department of Ecology regarding Clean Water Act authorizations for tribal artificial propagation; and working with tribal staffs to support implementing hatchery environmental plans. Incumbent works as part of a team consisting of hatchery managers, environmental biologists, fish health personnel, and biometricians.
