Data Analyst Intern

Office of Analysis & Evaluation (OAE) Fall Intern Project Description

Primary Intern Duties:

Statistical Analysis of Attrition Rates
The Office of Placement at Peace Corps collects data on attrition rates at different application statuses. This project will entail assessing the overall application pipeline, from application to departing for service, and the steps in between, to create a linear regression statistical model of the application process. This model will incorporate various demographic factors such as race and ethnicity, gender, age, and education level, in order to comprehensively model attrition rates and identify key pain points in the application process for each of these demographic categories. This model will then be incorporated into an interactive tool, either Tableau or Excel, in order to create present various scenarios for future recruitment and placement goals. The final product will present the logic for the model, visualization of historical data, and the scenarios using the model to plan for future application goals.

Secondary Analysis
Looking at the same data set of attrition at various statuses in the application pipeline, qualitative analysis will be conducted in order to identify factors that should be incorporated into the application process that will enrich our ability to analyze the data. This will require research into best practices and key indicators from external organizations.

Survey Creation
The Office of Analysis and Evaluation wishes to create a survey to better understand current motivations for applicants and historical trends in the public perception of Peace Corps. Interns would be responsible for designing the survey, mapping the process of creating and releasing a survey to the general public, and collaborating with Peace Corps stakeholders.
