Philanthropy Intern - Work U Fall 2023

Overview: The WCA is a nonprofit that has been serving the Boise community for over 113 years. We provide safety, healing and freedom to individuals and their family survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault through our free wrap-around trauma-informed services that include: safe shelter, 24/7 hotline, court advocacy, case management, financial empowerment, support groups and counseling. Our Philanthropy Department serves the community through outreach, service education, volunteerism and donor relations.

Opportunity/Project Duties: 
Volunteer / New Donors / Ambassadors
  • Work with the philanthropy specialist to deliver meaningful thankyous to new donors via letters and phone calls.
  • Assists in maintaining volunteer files that include applications, criminal background check, reference check, confidentiality agreements and copies of hours worked in assigned departments and projects. 
  •  Assists in providing data for volunteer reports monthly, quarterly and yearly. (where backup is needed)
  •  Support the delivery of our outside fundraisers which includes giving tuesday and The Avenues for Hope Appeal.
  • Assist with donation drives, donation drop offs and other project based work associated with the In Kind giving at The WCA.
  • Data entry associated with volunteers.

 Administrative and data management 
  • Data entry associated with new donors.
  • Data entry associated with our mission tour.
  • Support the delivery of mass mailings which include our Annual Report, Tax letter, annual appeal.
  • Data entry of In Kind donations and meaningful thank you.

Events
  • Occasionally assists in events that support our Corporate Pillar giving program.
  • Works to support the Philanthropy team during our HBWH event on October 29, focusing specifically on Table host party packs.
  • Supports additional events where needed.

Other
  •  Assist with other tasks that help the agency as a whole achieve our mission of safety , healing and freedom from Domestic abuse and sexual assault.
  • General Administrative tasks including data management and mass mailing support.

Qualifications: 
  1. Collaborative attitude and team player.
  2. Exceptional attention to detail and possesses strong organizational and time management skills; Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
  3. Personable and able to develop a positive rapport with individuals while maintaining a strong sense of professionalism.
  4. Excellent verbal, written and record keeping skills. Confident to speak in Public or virtually to small and large groups of community members in a variety of settings such as Zoom, Facebook live or in person gatherings.
  5. Ability to handle stressful situations, and maintain strict confidentiality.
  6. Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Database/CRM experience is a plus. 

Skills You Will Develop:
  1. Organizational skills - google calendar, time management, etc.
  2. Professional interpersonal skills through interactions with varying types of individuals in the community i.e. volunteers, donors, clients, coworkers, managerial staff, ambassadors, etc. 
  3. Understanding and education around domestic abuse, sexual assault and confidentiality
  4. Understanding of nonprofit work in Boise
  5. Understanding of philanthropic work and impact for nonprofits and community
