Legislative Services Intern - Idaho Legislative Services

Overview: 

The mission of the Legislative Services Office is to provide efficient, non-partisan support services to Idaho’s citizen legislators, to carry out legislative policies so as to strengthen the Legislature’s management as a separate branch of government, and to assist the Legislature in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.  The Legislative Services Office strives to modernize the provision of professional staff services to the Legislature, to provide committees and legislators with staff support, to increase communication and efficiency, and enhance coordination and productivity within the legislative branch of government.  Under the direction of the Director of Legislative Services, the office consists of the Division of Research and Legislation, Division of Budget and Policy Analysis, the Legislative Audit Division, and the Information Technology Division.

Possible Responsibilities:

  • Research, fact-check, and copy-edit material
  • Design, write, update, and maintain various online guides / documentation
  • Proofread various new technical documents and other deliverables before they reach audiences
  • Research a topic related to the industry, and provide trends or new findings at a staff meeting
  • Prepare, examine and analyze accounting records, financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of audit-related deliverables and confirmations for external auditors
  • Shadow different jobs in the agency & process learnings with mentor

Skills you will develop:

  • Learn different aspects of the legislative process
  • Learn the appropriation/budget process and financial reporting as it relates to government
  • Learn how statutes impact agency budgets and fiscal process
