Financial Empowerment and Education Intern - WCA

POSITION SUMMARY:

The WCA Financial Empowerment Program seeks to provide an opportunity for survivors of sexual violence to reconstruct their relationships with finances and renew a vision of a world where they no longer live paycheck-to-paycheck. We provide tax assistance, online, face-to-face, and Zoom classes and coaching, and bankruptcy assistance.  Each client will have an individually created service plan and client progress is documented routinely. All client work is within the overarching  WCA mission of Safety, Healing and Freedom from Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault. 

Project Duties

  • Working closely with the Financial Educator to assist in recruitment and management of WCA clients. Providing data management and administrative support to help the program run successfully. Additionally you may also support the Financial Educator in assisting the public out-reach activities if those are scheduled.
  • Working with the Financial Educator to send reminder texts and emails to clients to help increase client attendance at appointments.  Connect with clients to determine their preference for appointment modality:  face-to-face, Zoom, telephone, email follow up communication.  Provide the calendaring documentation for the Financial Educator and the client for the appointment notification using the existing applications (training is provided).  Document client completion of various surveys, forms and classes in existing record keeping documents and formats.
  • Standard office hours are typical in this position.

  4. Ability to be flexible and accommodating.
  5. Excellent verbal, written and record keeping skills. Confident to speak in Public or virtually to small and large groups of community members in a variety of settings such as Zoom, Facebook live or in person gatherings.
  6. Ability to handle stressful situations, and maintain strict confidentiality.
  7. Experience with Google Tools and Canva preferred, but learning time will be acceptable.
  8. Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
  9. Ability to professionally represent the WCA to the public.
  10. Strong computer skills; proficiency in Word Processing, spreadsheets, are required. Database/CRM experience is a plus.

Working conditions/ Environment:

  • Our office is open between 9-5pm Monday - Friday. This role may require occasional weekend, early morning, and/or evening hours.
  • Approximately 85% of time is spent on location, indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. Up to 15% of time is dedicated to travel time and attendance at outside activities.
  • Approximately 75% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation.
  • Approximately 25% of time is spent standing, walking and bending.
  • Occasionally lifts up to 25 lbs.
  • Should possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation necessary to attend off-site meetings/conferences/events as well as visiting various WCA properties.

WCA's requires participants to have valid identification, undergo a background check, sign a liability waiver and sign a confidentiality agreement.
