Reporting to: Senior Grant Writer

Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: New York City [Hybrid or Remote eligible]


Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Human Rights seeks a Development Intern to support our Development efforts. This internship will focus heavily on research and will help strengthen one’s research and data management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Development team with researching, prospecting, and creating confidential donor briefs;
  • Aid in updating and quality management of our Salesforce database with current donor information and latest outreach, as well as producing reports;
  • Liaise with members of each of our programmatic teams (at all levels) as needed;
  • Assist in research and follow-up for our online fundraising auction;
  • Support our annual gala projects as needed, including mailings, follow-up phone calls, and donor research;
  • Assist with automating our current program software to routinely send engagement emails to donors;
  • Support development and maintenance of overall department systems and processes;
  • Assist in drafting and editing funding proposals for RFK Human Rights programs;
  • Assist with event planning, which includes but is not limited to research, budgeting, logistics, and attendee registration;
  • Assist with other tasks and activities as needed, including but not limited to general office work.
  • Do your part in keeping our operations running smoothly - tracking your hours and submitting timecards in a timely manner.

A successful candidate must have the following skills and experiences:

  • Undergraduate student with experience and interest in online research, data management, fundraising, non-profit management, and/or event planning;
  • A demonstrated passion for RFKHR’s mission and demonstrated commitment to community-centered advocacy;
  • Strong Interest in working in and learning more about the non-profit sector, specifically in development and human rights;
  • Awareness of, and interest, in current events and issues relating to human rights around the world;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace;
  • Demonstrated research skills suitable for varied audiences;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to scope out errors, including a willingness to own and fix mistakes;
  • Time management, you have the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at once;
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information;
  • Strong sense of teamwork that builds positive relationships with colleagues, and a willingness to help others;
  • Inclusive, you’re excited to work with people who have different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives from your own.
