If selected for this position, you will be responsible for providing aircraft, equipment, and services to support research and development, aerial application programs, aerial surveying, and distribution of sterile insects and/or bio-control agents as needed to support agricultural pest control programs.

The duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Fabricates specialized equipment using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes and various electric arc processes to weld all types of commonly used metals and alloys.
  • Controls the metals and the welding techniques to prevent distortion or burning of the metals, and to meet weld dimension, tolerance, strength, and other requirements.
  • Determines the welding techniques and machine settings to be used, assembles and sets up the parts to be welded, and makes the required welds following a variety of guides.
  • Makes welds in a flat or horizontal orientation and/or in more difficult positions such as vertical or overhead, depending on the process used and the requirements of the work

Qualifications

To qualify, you must show you have had training and experience of sufficient scope and quality to provide you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Applications will be evaluated in accordance with Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Delegated Examining Procedures and USDA policy using category rating. Applicants who meet basic minimum qualifications will be placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants eligible for veteran's preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans. Category placement will be determined based on applicants' quality of experience and the extent they possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) or competencies:

 

  • Ability to do the work of a Welder without more than normal supervision
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
  • Dexterity and Safety
  • Knowledge of metals
  • Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Use of measuring instructions/Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
