System Administrator - Linux

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an experienced Linux System Administrator to design, implement, secure, and maintain systems and associated applications, services, and components. This is an on-site, non-remote position for our Logan, UT location.

SDL supports a variety of missions, including NASA's vision to reveal the unknown for the benefit of humankind and the Department of Defense's aim to protect our nation on the ground, in the air, and in space. Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieves in-depth knowledge of company processes, systems, and networks
  • Monitors assigned systems to ensure high availability, optimum performance, and security
  • Assists with the day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades
  • Follows established IT policies and procedures to perform audits and ensure compliance
  • Ensures data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions
  • Works with their leaders to prioritize projects, requests, changes, and tasks
  • Documents issues in Jira, communicates progress (through updates, workflow status, due dates, etc.) as the issue is being worked
  • Understands and utilizes Change Management when adding, modifying, or removing anything that could have an effect on IT services
  • Proactively monitors assigned systems to ensure high availability, optimum performance, and security
  • Assists in installation and configuration of information systems and components
  • Assists in the design and implementation of information systems
  • Responsible for documentation of assigned systems and solutions

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience in administration of Linux environments, server and workstation, to include RHEL and Ubuntu, especially in an air-gapped environments
  • Experience with container platforms, (i.e., Podman, Docker)
  • Familiarity with container orchestration tools (i.e., Kubernetes, OpenShift, RKE2, EKS)
  • Willing to perform maintenance and support on systems outside of core hours (on-call) as required
  • Must be willing to travel if required (not a normal expectation)
  • Strong organizational skills, quick learner, and demonstrated problem solver
  • Ability to apply knowledge to complex, practical situations
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with a wide range of internal and external customers
  • Ability and desire to continue learning new skills as system needs grow and change
  • DoD 8140 compliant (or able to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Server and desktop configuration and maintenance experience
  • Ability to manage installation and maintenance of monthly security patches
  • Experience with Active Directory/LDAP and Kerberos

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ten years IT systems administrator experience
  • BS degree or equivalent experience in information technology, computer science, information systems, engineering, or related computer field
  • Experience with Cloud platforms and services
  • Automation using scripts, cron, or other methods (i.e., Ansible)
  • Experience with RedHat Identity Management (IdM).
  • Experience designing apparmor or selinux security policies for linux
  • 2 or more years managing Kubernetes cluster in Development or Production environments
  • Understanding of information systems security best practices and use of security tools such as Nessus, SCAP, and applying STIGs
  • Experience with Monitoring tools, (i.e., ElasticSearch, Logrhythm)
  • Experience managing offline software repositories, (not limited to OS repositories)
  • Familiarity with databases (i.e., Postgres, MySQL) and Linux web services (i.e., Apache)
  • Knowledge of DoD Security Requirements within classified spaces
  • Experience with one or more of the following would be helpful: system build and maintenance, backups, workstation encryption, Virtualization (VMware), enterprise storage, administration of Jira/Confluence/Bitbucket, etc.
  • Active SECRET clearance (please disclose any clearance when applying as all are beneficial)
