Responsibilities
Position Overview:
The summer intern will assist the Industrial Engineering team in implementing and enhancing 5S methodologies across facilities to improve workplace organization, efficiency, and safety. This role provides hands-on experience in lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
Reports to: Director of Industrial Engineering, Process Excellence
Duration: June 2, 2025 - August 8, 2025. Must be available for the first week (6/2 - 6/6), the last week (8/4 - 8/8) and at least 7 of the 8 weeks between 6/9 - 8/1. Any known absence must be communicated in advance to Talent Acquisition and the Hiring Manager.
Schedule/Hours per week: Monday – Friday, 30-40 hours per week during the 10-week program.
Location: Tampa, FL
Pay: $28.00 / hour
Qualifications
Educational Background
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Strong academic performance (e.g., GPA > 3.0 preferred).
Technical Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles, particularly 5S methodology (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
- Familiarity with process improvement tools and techniques (e.g., value stream mapping, Kaizen).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Ability to analyze processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
Communication and Teamwork:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including operators, supervisors, and managers.
Personal Attributes:
- Self-driven with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Passion for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct 5S audits to evaluate the current workplace organization and identify areas for improvement.
- Assist in the planning and execution of 5S implementation projects, including organizing workspaces and standardizing processes.
- Develop visual management tools (e.g., labels, floor markings, signage) to support 5S initiatives.
- Document and track the progress of 5S projects and present findings to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with teams to sustain 5S improvements by developing and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Provide training and support to associates on 5S principles and practices.
- Research best practices in lean manufacturing and suggest innovative ideas for workplace optimization.
